Vitebsk resident sentenced to 25 years in prison for murder with particular cruelty
September 7, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. A Vitebsk resident has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for murder with particular cruelty, Dmitry Orekha, prosecutor of the department for supervision of legality of court decisions in criminal cases and analysis of judicial practice, told a BELTA correspondent.
The man, born in 1955, who was not allowed into the apartment by his ex-wife, was sheltered by a neighbor. For her kindness, the 79-year-old pensioner paid with her life: while intoxicated, the man, previously repeatedly convicted of murder, robbery and banditry, inflicted about 20 stab and hand wounds on her, and then stole orders and awards received for participating in the Great Patriotic War.
For murder with particular cruelty, the man was sentenced to 25 years in prison. The sentence entered into legal force at the end of August.
As noted in the prosecutor's office, this is the harshest sentence handed down in the Vitebsk region this year. Such punishments are applied quite rarely. For example, last year, such a decision was made only once. -0-
