Vitebsk resident stole an ambulance for his wife
April 27, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. A Vitebsk resident stole an ambulance for his wife, the official representative of the Investigative Committee Department for the Vitebsk region, Inna Gorbacheva, told a BELTA correspondent.
The night before, a 34-year-old employee of a construction organization in the regional center, passing by the Vitebsk City Emergency Ambulance Station, saw the keys left in the ignition of one of the service vehicles. Without thinking twice, the man got behind the wheel of the ambulance and drove away. The trip lasted about 15-20 minutes and ended with a collision with a taxi. No one was injured in the accident, and the car thief, who turned out to be intoxicated, was immediately detained by traffic police officers who had already been notified of the incident.
As the detainee later explained his actions, his wife really "needed" the ambulance, so he decided to steal it. Law enforcement officers assessed the Vitebsk resident's heartfelt impulse in accordance with the provisions of the Criminal Code of Belarus. Now, a criminal case has been initiated against the man, who had not previously come to the attention of the police, under Part 1 of Article 214, which provides for up to five years of imprisonment. -0-
