Vitebsk woman receives two-year suspended sentence for using someone else's bank card
March 24, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. In Vitebsk, a former teacher made purchases worth Br1 million using someone else's bank card. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by Dmitry Orekhva, prosecutor of the department for supervision of the legality of court decisions in criminal cases and analysis of judicial practice of the Vitebsk Regional Prosecutor's Office.
The former teacher's son once brought home someone else's bank card, which was dispensed by an ATM. Yielding to temptation, the woman tried to make a small purchase. The attempt was successful: no PIN code was required at the terminal when paying with this card. And then the woman decided to spend money lavishly.
Based on surveillance camera footage, law enforcement officers were able to identify the young man who took the card. During the first meeting with the police, the guy did not admit to appropriating it, but he did ask his mother about the card's whereabouts. Fearing for her son, the Vitebsk resident came to the police herself and confessed to embezzling the money.
A criminal case was initiated against the woman under Part 2 of Article 212 of the Criminal Code for theft by entering false information into a computer system, combined with unauthorized access to computer information. Taking into account her merits at her previous place of work, the 50-year-old Vitebsk resident was sentenced to two years of probation. -0-
