Vitebsk region will take part in an international project on the prevention of non-communicable diseases
The competition is part of the EU-UN special project, planned until 2019, aimed at reducing morbidity caused by smoking, alcohol abuse, unhealthy diet, and insufficient physical activity. Equally important areas include combating cancer morbidity through the implementation of screening programs, reducing injuries among minors, strengthening the healthcare system for mothers and children, as well as supporting the healthcare system with a focus on primary care.
It is expected that the Vitebsk region will receive 3-4 grants. Participation in the international project will allow the region to work even more effectively on prevention issues and, most importantly, to encourage the population to take care of their own health, believes Yuri Derkach, Head of the Healthcare Department of the Regional Executive Committee.
Today, local executive committees, interested departments, and services are tasked with proposing their action plans in the specified areas. As Yuri Nikolaevich explained, subsequently, they will be financed both by the healthcare department within the framework of the provided programs and by the UNDP.
The strengthening of prevention is one of the important guidelines set for the domestic healthcare system by the head of state at the fifth All-Belarusian People's Assembly. In terms of preserving the health of the population and ensuring demographic security in the country, this direction plays a significant role.
