Vitebsk will continue to participate in international youth environmental projects

August 11, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. Vitebsk will continue to participate in international youth environmental projects. This was announced today by the Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee Vladimir Shloma at a meeting with participants of the Youth Environmental Camp from Belarus, Russia and Germany, a BELTA correspondent reports.

The international project Ewoca-3 brought together volunteers from the Belarusian city of Vitebsk, the Russian city of Smolensk, and the German city of Hagen on the banks of the Dvina River. For ten days, the young people were engaged in the improvement of a lake near the urban settlement of Ruba. Thanks to the efforts of the volunteers, this place has been transformed into an attractive, well-maintained recreational area in a short period. The coastal area and the beach water area have been cleaned up. The young people showed particular diligence in improving the beach: they removed garbage, equipped gazebos and benches, and created areas for volleyball and garbage collection. A bio-toilet has been installed on the beach.

Along with their work, the volunteers took part in an extensive cultural and entertainment program. During this time, they visited the Vitebsk Art Museum, the exhibition halls of the Town Hall, got acquainted with the expositions of Dukhovskoy Kruglik and the estate of Ilya Repin in Zdravnevo, and took exciting sightseeing tours by boat and helicopter.

At the final meeting in the Vitebsk City Executive Committee, participants from Smolensk and Hagen thanked the local authorities for their warm and friendly reception and expressed hope for further fruitful cooperation within the framework of other environmental projects. Representatives of the delegations exchanged memorable souvenirs.

The volunteer camp with the participation of youth from three partner cities was held within the framework of the international project Ewoca-3, aimed at developing international youth contacts and environmental education through joint labor activities. It was first organized in 2009 in Hagen, where participants were involved in tree planting. Last year, volunteers improved Smolensk. Vitebsk became the final stage of the project.

The Vitebsk City Executive Committee is already considering new interesting proposals presented by Ewoca-3 partners for further joint activities, noted Vladimir Shloma.-0-
