Vitebsk will celebrate its 1038th birthday for three days
June 23, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Vitebsk will celebrate its 1038th birthday for three days, the Culture Department of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee told a BELTA correspondent.
The grand opening of the "Happy Birthday, Beloved City!" festival will take place today and will kick off several dozen entertainment, educational, fun, and even culinary events for young and adult citizens, as well as numerous guests. Along with concerts by creative groups from the city, fair trade will unfold on the streets, and attractions will be open. For the first time, in honor of the Year of Books, the city's libraries will present themselves not only as book repositories but also as leisure centers. Another novelty of the city festival will be a classical music concert near the walls of the Holy Assumption Cathedral. The event is unique in that this venue on the high bank of the Western Dvina will try itself as a concert venue for the first time.
One of the most spectacular events promises to be the evening water show, which can be watched from the renovated embankment of the Western Dvina. In addition to cultural workers, employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations took an active part in its preparation.
The city festival will not be without night discos and a festive fireworks display. For the convenience of citizens, public transport will operate until three in the morning.
Partners from 10 countries will come to congratulate the birthday city. In addition to official delegations, they have sent creative groups to Vitebsk, which will also perform on city squares.
The celebration will conclude on Monday, June 25, with an investment forum. And on the eve of the city's liberation day from the Nazi invaders, which is celebrated on June 26, a chapel with a nabat bell will be opened at the site of the former concentration camp "5th Regiment". -0-
