Vitebsk introduces the trend of linen Christmas trees
December 1, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. An unusual pre-New Year's competition for a linen Christmas tree has been announced today in Vitebsk, Tatiana Lapina, manager of the information and consulting association "Gorod Vitebsk i Kompaniya," one of the project initiators, told a BELTA correspondent.
Competitions for designer Christmas trees and New Year's decorations are a rather popular entertainment for pre-Christmas European capitals. Both famous couturiers and novice designers gladly participate in them, using the most diverse materials to embody their imagination: from chocolate and berries to feathers, glass, and concrete. Fashionable Christmas trees are made of leather, threads, nails, and even pots.
So, the organizers of the Vitebsk competition - the culture department of the city executive committee, the Orsha Linen Mill, and the consulting association - decided to hold a creative competition for the creation of unusual Christmas trees, decorations, and gift packaging, inviting everyone to participate. However, unlike European competitions, the Vitebsk one has one condition: Belarusian linen must be used in the creation of the competition entry. According to Tatiana Lapina, designers liked the organizers' requirement, and despite the fact that the official acceptance of applications began only on December 1, teachers of art schools, their students, and students of the Vitebsk State Technological University have already confirmed their participation in the competition. An exhibition of the most interesting works will open on December 23 at the regional museum of local lore, and the winning Christmas tree will decorate the flagship store of the Orsha Linen Mill.
The interlocutor added that the competition also aroused interest among local travel agencies. As it turned out, the opportunity to purchase designer linen New Year's decorations is attractive to foreign tourists, so Vitebsk inbound tourism organizers are working on a pilot route that includes visiting the exhibition and the flagship departments of the linen mill in Vitebsk stores. -0-
