Vitebsk intends to fully implement the outdoor lighting management system within two years

Vitebsk intends to fully implement an automated system for outdoor lighting control (ASULN) within two years. This was announced by the Chairman of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee, Viktor Nikolaikin, today during a discussion on the implementation of the State Program "Comfortable Housing and a Favorable Environment" for 2016-2020 in the Vitebsk region. The issue was considered at an open joint meeting of the presidium of the Vitebsk Regional Council of Deputies and the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.

According to the mayor, by the end of the year, it is planned to implement regulated lighting in the regional center at the level of 70-80%. "ASULN allows for the regulation of street lighting depending on the time of day and needs, significantly saving costs, which is why we are paying the utmost attention to this issue and intend to fully implement this system within the next two years," said the mayor.

In addition, in Vitebsk, since last year, street lamps have been converted from conventional bulbs to LEDs. To date, about 20% of the city's outdoor lighting system has been re-equipped. Energy-saving lamps have been installed on Moskovsky Prospekt, Frunze Prospekt, in the city center, and in the Bilevo microdistrict. "The cost savings are substantial; compared to previous years, we are already seeing a twofold reduction in expenses," emphasized Viktor Nikolaikin.

The Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Nikolai Sherstnev, noted the importance of this work in the future. "The city is currently illuminated practically around the clock. This is irrational; at night, only standby lights should be on," he added. "Besides, you can see the savings yourself."
