The Vitebsk Philharmonic will present a postscript program to the 200th anniversaries of Mendelssohn and Schumann

January 26, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA/. Famous organist from St. Petersburg Mikhail Mishenko will present a concert program-postscript to the 200th anniversaries of Felix Mendelssohn and Robert Schumann, celebrated in 2009 and 2010 worldwide, on February 27 at the Vitebsk Regional Philharmonic. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by the concert department of the regional philharmonic. Mikhail Mishenko has performed in Vitebsk many times, but this will be his first time playing the organ of the regional philharmonic. The performer is a brilliant musicologist and organ researcher, distinguished by his intellectual approach to the formation and preparation of concert programs. The laureate of international competitions will introduce Vitebsk fans of the king of instruments to the program "From the Times of Mendelssohn," which includes works by the founding masters of the Leipzig School, Felix Mendelssohn and Robert Schumann, as well as composers Niels Gade and Josef Rheinberger. In addition, works by Johann Sebastian Bach will be performed, whose name and music were rediscovered for the general public precisely by Felix Mendelssohn. This concert will be a kind of prelude to a promising project of the Vitebsk Philharmonic related to the 325th anniversary of J.S. Bach, which will start in 2011. Mikhail Mishenko, Candidate of Art History, is an associate professor at the St. Petersburg Conservatory, and the author of books, articles, and translations. The musician's repertoire features a significant amount of music from the 19th and early 20th centuries, and he often turns to little-known compositions. The musician is the initiator and performer of the Scandinavian music concert series Musica Nordica (St. Petersburg, Moscow, 2006); the organ-chamber-instrumental series "Two Centuries of Felix Mendelssohn (1809-2009)" (St. Petersburg, 2009), as well as the performer of the Russian premiere of the organ drama in three evenings Messis ("Harvest Time" by Danish composer Rued Langgaard). Currently, the musician regularly gives concerts on the organ of the Maltese Chapel of the Vorontsov Palace.-0-
