Vitebsk HPP will become one of the objects of the "One Belt, One Road" initiative - CNEEC representative

The Vitebsk HPP will become one of the objects of the "One Belt, One Road" initiative, noted Yao Hanwu, Executive Director of the China National Energy Corporation CNEEC, which is building the Vitebsk Hydroelectric Power Station, at the round table "Advantages and Prospects of Belarus in the Construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt".

Yao Hanwu noted the importance of the "One Belt, One Road" initiative, which was put forward by PRC Chairman Xi Jinping. "Currently, this is one of the most important directions of the state's strategic policy," said the executive director. He pointed out that Belarus is also actively joining this initiative, as evidenced, among other things, by the construction of the China-Belarus Industrial Park "Great Stone".

"At the moment, Chinese-Belarusian relations have reached a new, higher level. Our company strives to contribute to their development and promote the implementation of the "One Belt, One Road" strategy," said the CNEEC representative. - We are doing everything possible for the effective and high-quality implementation of the Vitebsk HPP construction project, which will become an environmentally friendly source of energy." Yao Hanwu expressed confidence that the ties between Belarus and the PRC will strengthen and be filled with new concrete content. The Vitebsk HPP will allow the water and energy potential of the Western Dvina River to be put into operation, and it is expected to become the most powerful hydroelectric power station in Belarus. Its installed capacity will be 40 MW - the power station will be able to provide electricity to a third of the Vitebsk region. The Vitebsk HPP is expected to generate its first electricity in 2017. In accordance with the Concept of Energy Security of Belarus until 2020, the creation of a cascade of four hydroelectric power stations on the Western Dvina is planned: Polotsk, Vitebsk, Beshenkovichi, and Verkhnedvinsk. Presumably, their total installed capacity will be 110-125 MW.
