Vitebsk Gymnasium No. 2 showed the best result in the regional foreign language olympiad
As noted by Dmitry Khoma, Head of the Education Department of the Regional Executive Committee, this year over 1000 students from all over the Vitebsk region participated in subject Olympiads.
As for "foreign languages," students demonstrated their knowledge of English, German, French, Spanish, and Chinese. Out of 177 participants in the regional stage, 77 received diplomas of various degrees. Among the winners are students from schools and gymnasiums in Vitebsk, Polotsk, Novopolotsk, Orsha, Lepel, Chashniki, Dokshytsy, Postavy, and Verkhnedvinsk.
The students will have to defend the honor of the region and maintain the level of their predecessors: for the past few years, students from the Dvina region have shown the best results in the country. Preparation for the upcoming challenges began immediately after receiving awards.
– The success of schoolchildren in the Olympiad movement depends not only on the capabilities of schools and the level of teacher training but also on the diligence of the students themselves, as well as parental support, – noted Dmitry Khoma.
As for the authorities, they provide assistance in strengthening the material and technical base of educational institutions. For example, over fifty computer classes were equipped last year.
According to Konstantin Kiselev, Director of Gymnasium No. 2, his students won the most awards in the regional Olympiad in foreign languages, receiving 17 diplomas: 8 in English, 5 in Spanish, and 4 in Chinese. 25 students from the gymnasium advanced to the republican subject Olympiads, including 8 in foreign languages.
For success in education, a first-class teaching staff has been prepared, the material base has been strengthened, and original curricula have been developed. A foreign language helps not only those who have decided to dedicate their lives to linguistics but also other students.
For example, gymnasium student Anton Zhiltsov became a bronze medalist of the international geography olympiad, and the young man wrote his work for the prestigious competition in English.
– Knowledge of foreign languages is one of the basics in the modern world, – asserts Konstantin Kiselev. – The current realities are such that a person simply must have a high level of proficiency in the main international language – English, and a decent level in any other. Our gymnasium graduates are helped by this to be successful in life.
11th-grade students who have won first-degree diplomas at the regional olympiad receive 100 points for the corresponding subject in the centralized testing automatically.
