July 1, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. The Vitebsk police will switch to an enhanced duty mode for two weeks starting July 2, said Alexander Naydenko, head of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, at a press conference today. "From July 2 to July 16, due to the celebrations of Independence Day and the Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk international arts festival, the police will switch to an enhanced work mode," he said. During the festival, law enforcement officers of the region will be assisted by a special purpose police unit from Minsk and soldiers of the internal troops. Issues with accommodation for non-resident staff have already been resolved. According to Alexander Naydenko, the police are provided with the necessary number of vehicles and technical equipment. Due to the increase in the number of concert venues, the number of regulated access zones will also increase, so for the convenience of spectators, the number of checkpoints will increase to 28. Last year, there were 18. For the festival, 50 new video cameras will be installed in crowded places in the city center, which will be used to monitor order in these areas. The number of patrols, both foot and vehicle, will be increased in residential areas and on the outskirts. Alexander Naydenko noted that statistics for many years show a decrease in all types of crimes during the festival. "Public order will be ensured at the current festival as well," assured the head of the Internal Affairs Directorate. -0-
