Vitebsk police will strengthen law and order protection measures
Festive events dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Victory Day of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War are of great interest to the residents and guests of Vitebsk. At the military parade and the theatrical procession, which will take place on Victory Square in Vitebsk and start at 10:00 AM, we expect the presence of about 20 thousand citizens.
The internal affairs bodies of the region will take all necessary measures to ensure the protection of public order and public safety during the festive events.
As reported by Igor Scarinovich, Deputy Head of the Public Security Police Department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Internal Affairs Directorate, a restricted area will be organized for these purposes, encompassing Victory Square (both sides), Lenin Street (from Shubin Street to Chernyakhovsky Avenue), and Kalinin Street (from Victory Square to building 24/2 on Kalinin Street). The event area will be enclosed by mobile turnstiles, and 8 checkpoints for citizens will be established. These checkpoints include entry points before the underpasses on the side of the "Zhuravinka" restaurant (Moskovsky Avenue, 7) and "Belarus" shopping center (Beloborodova Street, 5), as well as near Secondary School No. 2 (Beloborodova Street, 6), on Kalinin Street near the Alley of Glory (Kalinin Street, 24/2), on Lenin Street near the Lenin Library (Lenin Street, 8a) and the Civil Registry Office (Lenin Street, 5), on the side of the "Solnyshko" cafe and the Main Post Office (Moskovsky Avenue, 8). From 8:30 AM until the end of the event, the movement of private and public vehicles will be restricted on the following streets: Lenin Street, Kalinin Street, Zhestkova Street, Shubin Street, B. Khmelnytsky Street, Moskovsky Avenue, Chernyakhovsky Avenue.
In accordance with the Law of the Republic of Belarus "On Mass Events in the Republic of Belarus," internal affairs officers will conduct personal searches of citizens and searches of their belongings, including with the use of technical and special means. In the same locations, video surveillance cameras will be installed to monitor citizens' behavior and record crimes and offenses.
We remind you that due to the security measures being taken, the following are strictly prohibited in the event venues:
- carrying cold, firearms, gas or other weapons, as well as simulators and mock-ups of these items;
- carrying alcoholic and other beverages in glass containers, tetra-packs and dark-colored plastic bottles, with the exception of non-alcoholic beverages in transparent plastic bottles with a capacity of no more than 0.5 liters;
- being at the event venue while intoxicated or under the influence of narcotic drugs, psychotropic, toxic or other intoxicating substances;
- carrying or using pyrotechnic devices;
- using flags, pennants, as well as emblems, symbols, posters and banners, with the exception of State Symbols and attributes developed for these purposes by the Vitebsk City Executive Committee.
In case of a citizen's refusal of a personal search or a search of their belongings, in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Belarus "On Mass Events in the Republic of Belarus", they will not be admitted to the mass event venue.
During the evening concert program on Victory Square (Vitebsk City, Oktyabrsky District side), starting from 17:30, a restricted access area will be organized, which will include Victory Square (Vitebsk City, Oktyabrsky District side), and 4 entry points will be created, which will be located at the following places:
- Victory Square (exit from the underpass);
- Moskovsky Ave., 8 (Main Post Office);
- Moskovsky Ave., 8 (Zhestkova Street side);
- Victory Square (Lenin Street – Zhestkova Street intersection side).
Also, on May 9 of this year, in connection with the preparation and conduct of the festive salute, access for citizens to the monumental part of Victory Square (the side of the Zheleznodorozhny district of Vitebsk) and a part of the Park of Heroes (from Victory Square to house No. 16 on Kalinin Street), as well as to Kalinin Street (from house No. 24/2 on Kalinin Street to house No. 6 on Lenin Street) will be restricted from 8:00 PM until the end of the salute.
