Vitebsk police to focus on theft prevention in 2011

January 25, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. Vitebsk police will focus on theft prevention in 2011. The head of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Naydenko, told reporters today about a large-scale campaign aimed at reducing thefts of all types of property, a BELTA correspondent reports. Throughout the year, law enforcement officers will pay close attention to countering and suppressing these offenses. For this purpose, raid inspections are planned at agricultural enterprises and construction sites. Interaction between police officers and the public is also assigned a significant role in this work. In this regard, Alexander Naydenko urged all residents of the region to actively cooperate with law enforcement agencies to identify and solve thefts. Special attention will be paid to the prevention of cottage thefts in 2011. The largest number of them is recorded in the Vitebsk, Orsha and Polotsk districts, where garden associations are concentrated. In total, 630 thefts from dachas were committed in the region in 2010. Moreover, almost every fifth of them occurred in the Vitebsk district, which has 165 garden associations, including 21,000 plots. It is possible to effectively counter such thefts only by organizing close cooperation between all interested parties. For this purpose, the first meeting of law enforcement officers and heads of garden associations took place in Vitebsk today, during which all the "painful" issues of dacha owners and ways to improve the protection of their property were discussed. An important step in this direction will be the Vitebsk District Department of Internal Affairs campaign "Property Security at the Dacha is a Common Task," which starts in February. As part of its implementation, police officers plan to inspect dacha cooperatives and meet with their leaders. -0-
