Vitebsk youth will be able to learn socially responsible design for free

An unusual lecture and practical course on socially responsible design, Vitebsk Social Design, will be held in Vitebsk from May to September this year, the organizers reported.

The "Vitebsk Center for Modern Art" museum, in cooperation with practicing professionals from Vitebsk, Minsk, and Warsaw, is organizing training for students and young specialists in a new direction for the northern city in design. Among the speakers are the director of his own studio in Minsk, Yan Karpov, the representative of Yandex.Belarus, Alexey Cherenkevich, and other employees of well-known companies and freelancers.

The first meeting is scheduled for May 21; applications are currently being accepted from those who wish to learn for free about modern trends in working with urban spaces and beyond. The course program includes 16 one-and-a-half-hour meetings, during which the teachers will not only give lectures but also provide practical assignments to the listeners. Upon completion of the training, the "graduates" will have to implement their own socially useful projects from July to September. This includes improving urban spaces, developing environmental initiatives, designing cultural events, and diverse media and social projects. Recently, public initiatives to improve the urban environment have become more active in Vitebsk: competitions are held for the design of park areas and playgrounds in residential areas; historical sites are decorated with elements in the UNOVIS style by artists; land art objects have appeared. Even the Center for Urban Projects and Initiatives "Prastora" has been registered, which organized an urban forum of the same name and is preparing to hold an open-air event on May 21.

It is obvious that the implementation of such initiatives requires not only desire but also a sufficient number of trained professionals in socially responsible design. The organizers of Vitebsk Social Design are the "Vitebsk Center for Modern Art" museum and the social and cultural institution "Vitebsk for me" (Vitebsk4.me).
