Vitebsk region leads in the number of school-based day camps

Vitebsk region leads the republic in the number of school-based day camps. This was announced by Dmitry Khoma, Head of the Main Department for Education of the Regional Executive Committee, during the republican council of directors of children's and youth supplementary education institutions, which took place in Vitebsk and Orsha on June 12–13.

– Our task is to reach the maximum number of children, to make holidays safe. We are all working on this together, – emphasized Dmitry Leonidovich. – There is also interaction with law enforcement agencies, which help in creating specialized camps.

Dmitry Andreev, Director of the Vitebsk Regional Palace of Children and Youth, said that 59 camps are operating at supplementary education institutions during the summer – with day stays, round-the-clock, tent camps, specialized camps, labor and recreation camps, where almost 6,000 children will spend their time productively.

– A big advantage of the supplementary education system is that most interest clubs are free, and children can try themselves in various fields, – he noted. – Currently, 3D modeling, robotics, and computer technologies are in high demand. But there is also interest in woodworking, artistic profiles, and children are even studying the basics of economics and entrepreneurship.

Today, there are 29 supplementary education institutions in the Vitebsk region, employing over 3,000 interest clubs, which are attended by almost every third student in the region.
