Vitebsk region leads in the online census of the population of Belarus among other regions
As of the morning of October 17, 456 thousand residents of the Vitebsk region took part in the population census. Of these, 38% preferred not to wait for the census taker at home, but to fill out the questionnaires themselves online. Only Minsk has a higher percentage of online census. This was reported by Natalia Shrub, Deputy Head of the Main Statistical Department of the Vitebsk Region – Head of the Department of Demographic Statistics and Population Census.
– Before the start of the campaign, our employees, as part of information and explanatory work, visited many enterprises and organizations in the region, and talked about the possibility of being enumerated online. To be honest, we didn't even expect so many people to be willing to participate in the online census in the first days; people were completing the survey even at night, – says Natalia Olegovna.
However, only the tenth smartphone, raffled by Belstat and its partner Xiaomi among the participants of the electronic census, went to a representative of the Vitebsk region. Luck smiled upon Sergey Sinitsky from the regional center.
The young man decided to fill out the questionnaire on the website of the population census of Belarus together with his wife Victoria on October 13. And the very next morning, he received a call with the news that, based on the results of the past day, the automated random selection system had stopped precisely at his household.
– We have never won anything, we didn't even hope for it, so it was a complete surprise for us, – admits the young couple.
By the way, in 2009, Sergey participated in the census not only as a respondent but also as a census taker.
– I personally visited respondents, and all the data had to be recorded manually. Today, it is very convenient that there is an opportunity to fill out the questionnaire yourself, without leaving home and at a convenient time. It is enough to open the website and enter the data. I personally had no problems with registration. Therefore, I would prefer to participate in the next population census online as well, – says the young man.
By the way, one member of the Sinitsky family was included in the lists for the first time – their son Alexey, who turned three years old.
The winning smartphone was presented to the couple yesterday by the head of the Main Statistical Department of the Vitebsk region, Yuri Moskalёv. In a solemn ceremony, he congratulated the winners and thanked them for their conscious civic position.
We remind you that the online census started on October 4 and will end on October 18. Therefore, residents of the Vitebsk region still have a chance to win a smartphone.
And from October 21, enumerators will begin visiting respondents' homes. All this time, stationary booths are also operating, which can be visited until October 30. Their locations with addresses and working hours are posted on the websites of Belstat and the Main Statistical Department of the Vitebsk region.
