Vitebsk region threshed 1 million tons of grain

Vitebsk region farmers harvested 1 million tons of grain. This was announced to journalists by Boris Efremov, Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.

According to the deputy chairman, three main factors influenced the current harvesting campaign in the northern region. "Firstly, 50 thousand hectares more were subject to harvesting than in 2019 (almost 390 thousand hectares). Secondly, the timeframe of the harvest shifted by one to one and a half weeks. And thirdly, the situation was such that we had a greater workload per grain harvester. In individual farms and districts, it reached 300-350 hectares," stated Boris Efremov. "Of course, we hoped that the weather would give us four full weeks to harvest the main areas to the maximum. Unfortunately, it didn't happen. There were constant rains for three weeks, and the million tons that we planned to harvest back in August, we were only able to achieve now."

Boris Efremov thanked Gomselmash for their help in providing the rural workers with equipment, as they were able to promptly supply the region with 100 new harvesters. "They made an important contribution to the region's harvesting campaign at the final stage and are now working in the fields both on harvesting grain crops and on harvesting rapeseed," noted the deputy chairman.

According to the latest data, 319.7 thousand hectares, or 91% of the area, have been harvested in the Vitebsk region. The average yield is 31.4 centners per hectare. The highest harvests are noted in the Orsha and Vitebsk districts, whose farmers harvested 100 thousand tons of grain each this year. The agricultural workers of the Postavy and Verkhnedvinsk districts were the first to completely harvest their grain fields. It is expected that the region's harvest, taking into account all categories of agricultural producers and personal subsidiary plots, should amount to about 1.2 million tons of grain.
