Vitebsk region will almost triple the harvesting of silage in stretch film
With proper work organization, this is an achievable goal. Last year, with a plan of 60 thousand tons, 117 thousand tons of silage were produced using this method without particular strain. The average yield per baler-wrapper was 1.9 thousand tons (in Verkhnedvinsk district – 5.2 thousand tons, Sharkovshchinsky – 4.8 thousand tons, Postavsky – more than 3.5 thousand tons). 62 baler-wrapper units are ready to start haymaking; over five months, they will have to wrap at least 315 thousand tons of silage (570 thousand bales) in film.
From the first mowing, 250 thousand hectares of perennial grasses must be harvested, and 650 thousand tons of feed units must be produced. To obtain high-quality feed, balanced in nutrient content, and for subsequent full-fledged mowings, the first grass harvest must be carried out in the shortest possible time.
Inter-farm teams, which proved themselves well last year, will be organized. They accounted for 20% of the total volume, and in Orsha, Tolochin, and Rossony districts – more than half.
During harvesting, 593 forage harvesters, more than 1170 mowers, 604 tractor rakes, and 652 balers are planned to be used. In total, for the season, 28.2 centners of feed units of grass forage must be laid in for each conventional head of cattle for the winter stall period.
Continuing the topic of silage production in stretch film, the Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee, Nikolai Sherstnev, emphasized that the operation of expensive units must be under the control of regional leaders.
A unit consisting of a baler, a mower, and a windrower will move throughout the district. There are examples where one unit produced more than 5 thousand tons of high-quality feed per season. The Regional Agricultural Production Committee has been instructed to organize a competition with additional material incentives.
Assessing the progress of the sowing campaign, Nikolai Sherstnev noted that this spring provided ideal conditions, allowing for a pace comparable to the southern regions of the country. As of yesterday, Vitebsk region farmers had completed 77.7% of the republican plan for spring sowing. For comparison: Mogilev region – 77.1%, Brest region – 75.8%, Grodno region – 69.1%, Minsk region – 65.5%, Gomel region – 48.8%. Maintaining this pace, the villagers can complete sowing by early May. Overall, the quality of work is also pleasing. Nikolai Sherstnev thanked all participants of the sowing campaign for their labor.
