Vitebsk region proposes to Shandong province of China to develop investment cooperation

Vitebsk region offers Shandong province of China to develop investment cooperation. This was discussed at a meeting between the leadership of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee and an official delegation of the province headed by Governor Gong Zheng.

The meeting discussed issues of bilateral cooperation. First Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Oleg Matskevich noted that enterprises in the region produce a wide range of meat and dairy products that may be in demand by the population of Shandong province (one of the largest regions in China). In addition, proposals for investment cooperation were announced, including in the agro-industrial complex sector. This includes the construction of dairy farms, pig breeding complexes, and poultry production enterprises (there is a project to build a duck farm in the region).

The Governor of Shandong province noted the advantageous location of the Vitebsk region, which borders three states. This is a big plus that can be used to create joint logistics projects. Responding to the proposals for cooperation, the head of the Chinese delegation emphasized that there is currently a high demand for quality products in China, and Vitebsk products can take a worthy place on the shelves of stores in Shandong province. "This will strengthen trade and economic cooperation and expand the range of products. Our population will have more choice, which is important," Gong Zheng emphasized.

He expressed interest in implementing joint projects in the field of agricultural production and proposed strengthening interregional cooperation through closer contact between government bodies. "This will help us better understand how we can be useful to each other," the governor stated.

He also proposed strengthening cooperation in the humanitarian sphere by participating in projects of the international arts festival "Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk".

The administration of the province is ready to allocate quotas for scholarships for Vitebsk students who will study in

China. At the end of the meeting, documents on cooperation were signed.

The Committee for Economy of the Regional Executive Committee and the Foreign Affairs Office of Shandong Province have formalized their intentions to expand economic cooperation. The Healthcare Department of the Regional Executive Committee and the University of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the Province have agreed to develop cooperation in the healthcare sector (this includes the implementation of traditional Chinese health improvement methods in the region's medical institutions, personnel training, etc.).

The visit of the Chinese delegation to the Vitebsk region is planned for two days. An exhibition-presentation of products from leading exporting enterprises of the Vitebsk region in the food industry was organized for the guests. Today's program includes a visit to the Orsha Flax Mill.

Business contacts between the Vitebsk region and Shandong Province began in 2005 when a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the regions. Interregional cooperation is also carried out at the city level. Bilateral cooperation documents have been signed between the cities of Vitebsk-Jinan, Novopolotsk-Weihai. Contacts are currently being established between the cities of Orsha and Qingdao.
