Vitebsk region will fulfill the main forecast indicators of the five-year plan - A.Kosinec
17 March, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA/. Over the four years of the five-year plan (2006-2009), enterprises of the Vitebsk region increased industrial production by 52.2% in comparable prices compared to 2005. This was announced today at a press conference by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Kosinets, reports a BELTA correspondent.
"Today, we can confidently say that the main targets set for 2006-2010 will be met by the region," the governor stated. By the end of the fourth year of implementing the region's five-year development plan, consumer goods production increased by 50.3%, goods exports grew 1.4 times and amounted to about $9 billion, retail trade turnover and paid services increased 1.7 and 1.5 times, respectively. Since the beginning of the five-year plan, over Br13 trillion in capital investments have been attracted to the economy and social sphere, with 67% of them directed to production facilities. 1954 thousand sq.m. of housing were commissioned, including 592 thousand sq.m. in 2009 alone.
At the same time, Alexander Kosinets noted the low efficiency of economic activity in some sectors of the region's economy. Reducing the cost mechanism, saving resources of all kinds, and bringing enterprises to break-even operation are tools capable of counteracting the destabilizing impact of external factors and promoting further improvement of people's living standards and incomes, the governor believes. It is necessary to involve 352 unused real estate objects in economic circulation and transform 37 organizations of communal property into open joint-stock companies. "Every object must have an owner," emphasized Alexander Kosinets.
For the successful development of the economy, it is important to create a market for housing and commercial real estate, transport and logistics infrastructure, and increase the investment attractiveness of the region. Diversification of sales markets will also be an important factor for successful economic development. This year, the region will supply products to 112 countries worldwide, compared to 76 in 2008. The Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee also considers it necessary to reduce the region's budget dependence on fuel and energy enterprises. "By"to get off the oil needle," he said. To this end, it is planned to create a number of enterprises in the region, including those for the production of cars based on the Orsha Tool Plant. Negotiations on this are underway with one of the European companies. -0-
