August 10, Vitebsk / Sergey Kotovet - BELTA/. Farms of the Vitebsk region are completing the formation of seed funds for winter grain crops for the 2012 harvest, the Agriculture and Food Committee of the regional executive committee informed a BELTA correspondent.
As of August 10, over 70.5 thousand tons of winter crop seeds (rye, wheat, triticale) have been stored, which is about 95% of the target. Seed preparation and cleaning are currently underway. Sowing of winter grains in the Vitebsk region is planned to begin on August 20. In addition, all districts have started storing seed funds for spring grain crops for the 2012 harvest, which are to be formed in the volume of 115 thousand tons.
In general, grain and leguminous crops in the region have been harvested from an area of almost 282 thousand hectares, or 63.8% of the area to be harvested. Over the past two days, the pace of work has significantly decreased due to rains that occurred almost everywhere. Thus, on August 9, only 3.6 thousand hectares were harvested, with slightly more than 800 harvesters working, or 39% of their total number.
The total harvest amounted to over 900 thousand tons with an average yield of 32 centners per hectare. In terms of harvesting pace, the leaders are Chashniksky (86.2% of the area to be harvested), Verkhnedvinsky (82.8%), and Gluboksky (79.5%) districts. The highest grain yield of 35.5 centners per hectare is maintained in the farms of the Orshansky district.
Farms of the region have harvested half of the sown area of malting barley (12.5 thousand hectares), with 36.1 thousand tons of this crop harvested at an average yield of 29.4 centners per hectare. Flax has been pulled from an area of over 12.5 thousand hectares, or about 70% of the plan.
Winter rapeseed crops for the 2012 harvest already occupy over 16 thousand hectares, which is 32.3% of the planned sowing area for this crop.-0-
