Vitebsk region has completed the grain harvest
According to the Chairman of the regional executive committee, everything was done this year to achieve a higher yield than last year. "The weather made its own adjustments, but we have something to be proud of," emphasized Nikolai Sherstnev. Thus, the Orsha district became the only one in the region that surpassed the 100,000-ton harvest, having threshed 115 thousand tons of grain. It also has the highest yield: farmers of the agricultural enterprise "Larinovka" harvested more than 70 centners of grain per hectare. Due to labor organization and adherence to technology, the "Mezhevo" farm managed to almost double its grain production.
Along with this, the governor focused on the existing reserves. "The Orsha district has good land. Last year, Orsha received full funding for fertilizers, protective measures, and other needs, but some farms could not demonstrate an increase," stated the Chairman of the regional executive committee. He instructed the Chairman of the Orsha District Executive Committee, Igor Isachenko, to analyze the situation, as the district faces the task of achieving a gross grain harvest of at least 150,000 tons next year. "And we must systematically move towards 200,000 tons. This is possible in the Orsha district," is convinced Nikolai Sherstnev.
The main heroes of the holiday were the rear workers who ensured the main work. "These are the cooks, the crews that delivered food, received grain, the laboratory assistants, as well as the young combine operators who, due to their age and experience, will not be able to become winners of the district and regional 'Dazhynki', but have already demonstrated a high result," noted the governor.
The Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food, Vladimir Grakun, warmly thanked the agricultural workers of the Vitebsk region for their labor and contribution to the republic's common harvest. He emphasized that the region managed to grow and harvest almost a million tons of grain this year, including 115 thousand tons in the Orsha district.
Vladimir Grakun expressed confidence that next year the accumulated experience and skills of the agricultural workers of the northern region will allow them to obtain 1 million tons. "Overall, the republic's task is to produce at least 9 million tons of grain, which will fully ensure the country's food security and provide enough seeds for sowing winter and spring crops," the Deputy Minister concluded.
As of the evening of August 30, the gross grain harvest in the Vitebsk region totaled 950 thousand tons. The average yield was 30 centners per hectare. The region's agricultural workers have about 6% of the areas left to harvest. These are mainly cereal crops (millet, buckwheat, a small amount of legumes, peas), which are planned to be harvested within a few days.
