The Vitebsk Regional Library opened an electronic reading room on Library Day

September 15, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. The Vitebsk Regional Library has opened an electronic reading room on Library Day, the library's director, Alexander Syomkin, told a BELTA correspondent. Thanks to modern technologies, readers will be able to access regional, national, and global information resources. The electronic reading room provides Internet access and access to an electronic catalog with bibliographic databases. In addition, it contains the combined database "Pridvinye Region: History and Modernity," which includes information on the history and modern development of all districts of the Vitebsk region. Its creation utilized publications stored in the regional library's collections, as well as books from district libraries. The full-text database "Vitebsk Region: Documentary Heritage" can be considered truly unique. It contains digitized rare local history publications about the Pridvinye region from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. From the electronic reading room of the Vitebsk Regional Library, it is now possible to access the virtual reading room of the National Library and use its resources. According to Alexander Syomkin, databases for the new reading room will continue to be created. The electronic reading room is equipped with 11 modern computers with comfortable monitors. To access it, a library card is sufficient. The Vitebsk Regional Library's collection includes over 700,000 traditional and electronic books of industry-specific, reference, scientific, and fiction literature. The library has over 55,000 registered readers. Over 15% of the library's total funding is allocated annually for collection development. -0-
