The Vitebsk Regional Election Commission has begun its work. Dmitry Khoma will head it.
The parliamentary election marathon in the Vitebsk region is starting to gain momentum. The regional and district election commissions have appointed their leaders, the regional court is considering the first complaints from campaign participants, and the first contenders for deputy mandates, with documents for the registration of their initiative groups, have already worn paths to the district commissions.
Dmitry Khoma will head the regional election commission. This became known on September 3 following the first meeting of the election commission, at which Gennady Filippenko was also elected deputy by a majority of votes, and Svetlana Ilyushchenko was elected secretary. Presenting certificates to the members of the election commission, the chairman of the regional council of deputies, Vladimir Terentyev, reminded them of their personal responsibility, as the regional election commission is endowed with a wide range of powers. Its competence, in particular, includes establishing election results in the region, considering complaints against decisions of district commissions to refuse registration of initiative groups of candidates for deputies, and issuing warnings for violations of election legislation.
Representatives of the Liberal Democratic Party, the Communist Party of Belarus, and the Republican Party of Labour and Social Justice, as well as five other public associations, will work together in the regional election commission for the 2019 parliamentary campaign. From the first minutes, they actively joined the process and, in addition to organizational issues, considered a number of initiatives.
An equally important stage of the campaign is the formation of precinct election commissions. Political parties and other public associations, citizens, and work collectives have the opportunity to nominate their representatives to their composition until September 29, after which local authorities must form precinct election commissions no later than October 2.
