The honorable guest of the competition was the famous Vitebsk wrestler, silver medalist of the 1980 Olympics, Igor Kanygin, who noted that such competitions are a mandatory stage of athletes' training, because it is through sparring that young people gain the necessary tempering and invaluable experience that will be useful in master tournaments.

The competition was held in individual standings among men and women in fourteen weight categories. In addition to wrestlers from all regions of Belarus, representatives of regions of Russia and athletes from Qatar competed for the championship.

Vitebsk athletes performed successfully in the early stages of the tournament and managed to reach the semi-final and final bouts, but only Nikolai Antypenko won first place, who had no equal in the 97-kilogram weight category. The girls who defended the honor of our city were more successful: Tatyana Pavlova, Anna Vager, and Tatyana Kupriyanova took first place in the 48, 53, and 63-kilogram categories, respectively.
