Vitebsk bankers will teach citizens to use plastic cards more widely for payments

August 25, Dubrovno District / Diana Kurilo - BELTA/. Vitebsk bankers will teach citizens how to use plastic cards. The need for financial literacy in cashless payments among the population was stated today at an off-site meeting of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee in Dubrovno by Lilia Ivanova, head of the main department of the National Bank for the Vitebsk region, BELTA correspondent reports. According to data for the first half of the current year, the share of cashless payments in the region's retail trade turnover was 7.2%, and in the volume of paid services, it slightly exceeded 10%. Despite the fact that the region lags behind only Minsk in this indicator, it does not reach the parameter set by the government. In this regard, the chairman of the regional executive committee, Alexander Kosinets, instructed the Main Department of the National Bank for the Vitebsk region to develop a program to increase the share of cashless payments using plastic bank cards. Along with increasing the number of ATMs, terminals, and info kiosks, the program should also include familiarizing users with the wide possibilities of plastic cards for paying for services and goods. Lectures on this topic will be given by bank employees in secondary and higher educational institutions, enterprises, and organizations, as instructed by the governor. -0-
