Vitebsk building managers declare war on smokers on stair landings

Vitebsk housing management companies have declared war on smokers on stair landings, told the BELTA correspondent Nikolai Merechko, deputy head of the housing and communal services department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee. Announcements prohibiting smoking have appeared on the entrances of apartment buildings in the regional center, in which housing management companies remind citizens that, in accordance with regulatory acts, smoking is not allowed in the utility rooms of an apartment where several tenants or owners live, as well as in the auxiliary premises of a residential building - stair landings, vestibules. In accordance with the Code of Administrative Offenses, smoking in unauthorized places entails a fine of 10 to 30 basic units (the basic unit is currently Br35 thousand). Employees of housing and communal services bodies are authorized to draw up protocols against those who smoke on stair landings. Such measures against smokers are caused by numerous complaints from citizens who are forced to tolerate inconvenience due to the bad habits of their neighbors, the interlocutor explained. Rare smokers clean up their cigarette butts and ash, and tobacco smoke from the landings enters the apartments, thereby violating sanitary standards. -0-
