Vitebsk road workers began preparing republican highways for winter

RUE "Vitebskavtodor" has started preparing republican highways for the winter period in advance. This was facilitated by a set of measures approved by the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Belarus. In our region, work in this direction is carried out not only within the established deadlines but also taking into account the experience gained in previous years, stated Dmitry Borovik, Head of the Department for Maintenance of Roads, Bridges, Structures and Traffic Safety of RUE "Vitebskavtodor".

This winter, it is planned to spend 127 billion rubles on the maintenance of republican roads, which is 19% more than in the same period last year. Approximately 120 thousand tons of sand-salt mixture and about 7 thousand tons of pure salt will be required for anti-icing treatment of road surfaces.

The road workers' arsenal includes over 39 thousand prepared marker posts and more than 6 thousand snow fences. The enterprise has also stocked up on the necessary amount of gasoline, diesel fuel, and materials for pothole repair. By the way, since the beginning of this year, it has been carried out on 141,585 sq. m of republican roads. In preparation for the cold weather, equipment and machinery have been repaired and modernized. 355 salt spreaders and snowplows have been brought to readiness.

Stable communication with all linear road maintenance units and technological transport has been ensured for prompt management of highway maintenance. 12 road monitoring stations, which track the actual condition of highways and meteorological conditions in real-time, allow for proactive work. Vitebskavtodor employees have also foreseen seasonal force majeure situations. Thus, in bad weather, in addition to the available equipment, about 30 additional bulldozers, motor graders, and loaders from third-party organizations will be deployed on the roads.

About a thousand Vitebskavtodor employees are responsible for the reliability, quality, and safety of republican roads. They will keep the whims of winter under control so that driving on the region's transport arteries does not turn into an extreme sport.
