Vitebsk hunters feed wild boars with grain and cut down aspens for elk

February 15, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Forest rangers of the Vitebsk Production Forestry Association are helping forest dwellers survive the current snowy winter, the first deputy general director of the association - chief forester Boris Starovoytov told a BELTA correspondent. According to the Vitebsk Regional Center for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring, the snow cover in the region ranges from 35 cm to 47 cm. Due to the abundance of snow in the forest, animals have difficulty finding food on the ground, so every day rangers replenish feeding grounds with grain and grain waste for wild boars, cut down aspens and lay out salt licks for elk. As Boris Starovoytov noted, such measures are carried out by all lessees of forest lands - the Belarusian Society of Hunters and Fishermen, and private organizations. The forests of the region are inhabited by over 15,000 wild boars, 6,800 elk, over 12,000 roe deer, 940 red deer, 275 lynx, and a hundred bears. -0-
