Modern lifestyle and improper nutrition often lead to digestive system malfunctions. Due to the relevance of the problem, a scientific and practical gastroenterological center was established at the Vitebsk Regional Specialized Center, headed by Professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences Gennady Yupatov.
The center constantly implements new methods and technologies, one of the latest being the implantation of an intragastric, so-called French, balloon. This endoscopic procedure for obesity treatment has been used worldwide for a long time. In Belarus, similar operations began to be performed only in the capital; among all regions, Vitebsk medics decided to master this technique.
– Obesity is also reaching our country today, with an increasing number of overweight people who cannot cope with the problem solely through diets. In this regard, we are developing a new direction in endoscopic obesity treatment, – says Professor Yupatov.
Thus, with minimal medical intervention, the center's specialists strive to maximize the quality of life for patients living with the burden of excess weight.
Technologies are also being implemented for other gastrointestinal diseases. As reported byChief Physician Valery Denisenko, these include, for example, minimally invasive methods for treating esophageal varices in patients with compensated liver cirrhosis. It is worth noting that such operations are currently performed not even in all clinics in Moscow, and in Belarus, it is quite possible that Vitebsk specialists may become pioneers in this direction.
Over the year, the center's gastroenterology department with 40 beds has treated over 1,200 residents of the region. The consultative office is actively working. Among the diagnoses, stomach and duodenal ulcers, colitis, liver and pancreatic pathologies, and other digestive system dysfunctions prevail. An increasing number of patients with intestinal diseases are being identified – this is not the least
the expansion of diagnostic capabilities through modern endoscopic and laboratory research methods played a role.
The improvement of the material and technical base and the introduction of new treatment technologies into practice in the specialized center continue today, so that patients with gastroenterological pathologies experience less discomfort or can get rid of the ailment altogether.
