Vitebsk cardiologists are mastering invasive treatment of tachyarrhythmia
March 25, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Invasive treatment of patients with tachyarrhythmia is being introduced in the cardiosurgical department of the Vitebsk Regional Clinical Hospital, the head of the department, Candidate of Medical Sciences, member of the Council of the Republic Alexander Zenkov told BELTA correspondent.
Tachyarrhythmia is an accelerated heartbeat caused by pathological changes in the heart muscle, leading to additional impulses and an increase in the heart rate from the normal 60-80 to 120 beats per minute and above.
20-25% of the Belarusian population suffers from various forms of tachyarrhythmias. As a rule, these are people of working age. A significant portion of them require invasive intervention using radiofrequency ablation. Its essence is that using a specialized navigation system and a catheter, the surgeon destroys pathological foci, thereby restoring the heart's function to normal.
So far, only cardiac surgeons in the capital have fully mastered this technique in Belarus. The Vitebsk Regional Clinical Hospital already has specialized equipment. Patient preparation is currently underway, and the first invasive procedures will be performed in April.
All standard cardiosurgical interventions have already been implemented at the regional clinical hospital: open-heart surgery, including coronary artery bypass grafting, valve prosthetics and plasty, as well as operations with cardiopulmonary bypass, and off-pump surgery. In addition, the cardiosurgical department performs a wide range of interventions on the aorta and major arteries, arterial bypass grafting, prosthetics, and arterial plasty. -0-
