Vitebsk cardiologists are mastering surgical methods for treating pre-infarction conditions

March 23, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA/. Surgical methods for treating patients with acute coronary syndrome are being mastered at the Vitebsk Regional Clinical Hospital, Alexander Zenkov, Head of the Cardiac Surgery Department of the clinic, Candidate of Medical Sciences, and member of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, told a BELTA correspondent. Since last year, all standard cardiac surgery interventions have been introduced at the regional hospital, and planned operations to correct blood flow in the heart arteries for patients suffering from ischemic heart disease are already underway. The next stage in the development of the region's cardiology service will be the provision of emergency specialized cardiac surgery care to patients with acute coronary syndrome, the so-called pre-infarction state. This condition is accompanied by pain syndrome, impaired central hemodynamics, unstable blood pressure, and pulse. As a rule, the main cause of this is acute blockage of the arteries that supply the heart muscle. Previously, patients with acute coronary syndrome received conservative treatment. However, foreign cardiology increasingly resorts to surgical methods in such cases. The active mastery of high technologies by domestic doctors makes it possible to apply surgical treatment methods for these patients in Belarus as well, believes Alexander Zenkov. In this case, the intervention is carried out without an incision - by puncturing the artery, which is restored with the help of a special stent. It is with this method that it is possible to improve the condition of the arteries in most cases. In some cases, emergency aortocoronary bypass grafting is used. The need to master new treatment methods for acute coronary syndrome is due to the increase in the number of heart attacks, the most dangerous stage of this disease. According to statistics, in the Vitebsk region, the diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction is made annually in 1.5 thousand patients. "These are the patients for whom it is necessary to introduce advanced treatment methods," emphasized Alexander Zenkov. The first operations on patients with acute coronary syndrome are planned to be performed at the end of this year. -0-
