Vitebsk police officers switched to scooters
April 22, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Police officers of the patrol and post service regiment of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee have started using scooters, Dmitry Glushkov, acting commander of the regiment, told a BELTA correspondent.
Today, for the first time, a patrol on scooters went on duty in the Soviet Army recreation park and the nearby Ulanovichi dacha settlement. It is planned that recreation areas and suburban dacha settlements will become the focus of scooter patrols during the summer period. This ensures the mobility of police officers and, unlike vehicles, reduces the negative impact on the environment, Dmitry Glushkov noted.
The scooters were purchased using the regional budget, and the initiative to purchase them came from the police officers themselves. For example, if patrolling areas in the beach zone near Dolzha Lake and the nearby dacha settlement on foot requires 3 patrols (6 people), then one police officer on a scooter can cover these areas. It is also important that scooters are economical to operate: fuel consumption is insignificant - 2.5 liters are enough for 100 km.
According to Dmitry Glushkov, the public has reacted very favorably to police officers on scooters, and the officers themselves enjoy riding the modern equipment.
For now, there will be four scooters in the regiment's garage. If the equipment proves itself, the fleet may be replenished with additional scooters. -0-
