Vitebsk schoolchildren achieved a convincing victory at the programming Olympiad in Moscow

Once again, Vitebsk schoolchildren, trained by Veronika Laktina, an IT teacher at gymnasiums No. 8 and No. 1, achieved a convincing victory in Moscow at the Open Programming Olympiad.

Having performed at the final stage of the competition, they brought more awards back to their native Vitebsk than participants from other Belarusian cities – Minsk, Gomel, Mozyr, Luninets. Ilya Medyanikov, an 11th-grade student at gymnasium No. 8, and Artur Petukhovsky, a 10th-grade student, received gold medals and first-degree diplomas. Ilya Yakovlev, an 11th-grade student at gymnasium No. 8, was awarded a silver medal and a second-degree diploma, while Maria Izobova, an 11th-grade student at gymnasium No. 1, received a bronze medal and a third-degree diploma.

As V. Laktina explained, the Open Olympiad is a prestigious competition that grants benefits for admission to any Russian university and has been assigned the first (highest) level. Over one and a half thousand schoolchildren participated in the distance stage, and 364 young programmers from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Romania, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Bulgaria, and Tajikistan participated in the in-person stage. The competition consisted of two rounds, each lasting 5 hours, and for each round, participants had to write 4 programs to solve the given tasks. The Vitebsk participants coped brilliantly, once again confirming the high reputation of Belarusian programmers, who are now recognized worldwide.
