Vitebsk rescuers teach educators emergency medicine

Витебские спасатели учат педагогов медицине экстремальных ситуаций

The first classes on the elective course "Medicine of Extreme Situations" within the general secondary education system for employees of the Department of Education, Sports and Tourism of the Pervomaisky District Administration of Vitebsk were held at the "Vityaz" Fire and Rescue Squad of the Vitebsk Regional Emergency Situations Ministry Department. As reported to a BELTA correspondent by the regional Emergency Situations Ministry Department, the teachers themselves initiated such training.

The class took place at the end of last week. The course program, prepared by "Vityaz" specialists, included a theoretical block of issues: the procedure for accepting applications for assistance to the population; classification of emergency situations and disaster medicine; fundamentals of providing emergency medical care and principles of its organization in emergency situations; specifics of providing first aid to victims of fires, explosions, building collapses, at the scene of a road traffic accident, and during natural disasters; medical sorting and evacuation. The theoretical block also included working through recommendations directly for employees of the education system.

In addition, teachers acquired practical skills in actions under emergency conditions, familiarized themselves with multimedia materials from the medical service of the "Vityaz" Fire and Rescue Squad, as well as with the rules for providing first aid, performing artificial respiration, and closed-chest cardiac massage.

The first group was satisfied with the completed course. It is planned to continue this practice in the future and extend it to the education system of the entire city of Vitebsk, and in the long term, possibly, to the entire region, the Emergency Situations Ministry Department emphasized.
