Vitebsk rescuers pulled two people from a burning apartment
March 2, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA /. Vitebsk rescuers pulled two people out of a burning apartment, and more than 10 other residents, including young children, were evacuated during a fire in a nine-story residential building on Chkalov Street in the regional center. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by the press secretary of the regional department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Marina Fando.
The fire report was received from several residents of the building at once: flames were already bursting out of the kitchen window in an apartment on the second floor. Rescuers reached the epicenter of the fire through the window opening of one of the rooms, where they found the owner of the apartment unconscious. The man, born in 1959, was taken to the regional clinical hospital with carbon monoxide poisoning. His wife, born in 1959, was found near the entrance door and hospitalized with second and third-degree burns (about 80%). Simultaneously, rescuers had to evacuate the residents of the building, as smoke filled the stairwell up to the 9th floor. Among the evacuated were two young children, one of whom was less than a year old. The baby was sent to the regional children's hospital for a preventive examination.
As a result of the incident, the furniture in one of the rooms burned out completely, and the property in the other rooms of the apartment was scorched and rendered unusable. Among the items in the rooms were a large number of empty alcohol bottles, including unfinished containers of wine. The preliminary cause of the fire is considered to be careless handling of fire while smoking by the victims. A week ago, rescuers had already responded to this address: at that time, a fire occurred in this apartment due to food left unattended on the stove. -0-
