Vitebsk dentists were the first in the republic to start using a new system of antibacterial therapy

Vitebsk Regional Dental Polyclinic has started using "BioLactam" test systems – express tests based on spectrophotometry.

They are used to initially and reasonably select the antibiotic necessary for the patient's treatment. Or, in case of lack of effect from antibacterial therapy, to determine the cause and change the treatment tactics. This measure will help solve an important and very relevant problem today – the resistance of microorganisms to antibiotics.

With age, periodontal tissue damage develops in the oral cavity, leading to premature tooth loss, mobility, and pus discharge in the gum pockets. Successful treatment is possible only with accurate knowledge of the oral fluid microflora and the selection of antibiotics.

As the chief physician of the polyclinic, Vasily Varganov, said, the result of an analysis performed using the "BioLactam" test system will be ready within 24 hours. Based on its results, the doctor will prescribe the exact drug that will hit the target.

Before the introduction of the innovation, training was organized for dentists on the rules for collecting oral fluid, transporting the material, and the method for determining sensitivity. It was conducted by the authors of the development – scientists from the Department of Infectious Diseases of Vitebsk State Medical University, under the guidance of Professor V. Semenov, with the participation of Associate Professor of the Department of General Dentistry with a course in orthopedic dentistry I. Karpuk.

It should be noted that this promising method of diagnosing and treating dental diseases has been applied by specialists of the Vitebsk Regional Dental Polyclinic for the first time in the Republic of Belarus.
