Vitebsk students will experience the role of refugees

May 19, Minsk /BELTA/. The Belarusian Red Cross Society (BRCS), together with the Representation of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in the Republic of Belarus (UNHCR), will hold a role-playing game "On the Run" on May 22-23 to study the problems of refugees. It will take place at the Olgovo Secondary School (Vitebsk region), the chief specialist of the BRCS for media and public relations, Irina Karanchuk, told a BELTA correspondent. Students of the Faculty of Social Pedagogy and Psychology of Vitebsk State University named after P.M. Masherov, as well as BRCS volunteers, will take part in the game. Employees of the Citizenship and Migration Department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee and the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus will advise them on legislative and legal issues. "The game is of great importance in educating young people in the spirit of humanity and compassion," emphasized the Deputy Secretary General of the BRCS, Inna Lemeshevskaya. "The participants of the game will experience the problems of refugees and the realities of life of these deprived and disenfranchised people. They will learn how to help them not to break down physically and spiritually, to gain faith in humanity and hope for a normal life." The idea of the 24-hour role-playing game was borrowed from the Danish Red Cross. The organizers of the game in Belarus have prepared an introductory training presentation for the participants on the conditions and specifics of the game. They will try to create an atmosphere in which 55 participants can fully immerse themselves in the situation of resettlement from one country to another. Young people will face the difficulties that they, as refugees, will need to overcome for further integration in Belarus. The UNHCR, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and the Danish Red Cross provided support to the BRCS in organizing and conducting the game. The Voluntary Republican Public Association "Belarusian Red Cross Society" is a non-governmental association with a unique status guaranteed by national legislation. The BRCS, both independently and in cooperation with government bodies, implements measures to protect the life and health of the population, provide medical and social assistance, and respond to emergencies and armed conflicts.-0-
