Vitebsk customs officers detained a batch of footwear worth Br28 billion, BELTA was informed by the press service of the State Customs Committee of Belarus.

At the "Bigosovo-1" customs clearance point, during the inspection of MAN and Mercedes vehicles, customs officers discovered a large batch of footwear not indicated in the accompanying documents. The vehicles were traveling from Latvia to Kazakhstan.

According to the information indicated in the documents provided by the MAN vehicle driver, 480 pairs of women's shoes with uppers made of genuine leather and over 16 thousand pairs of shoes with uppers made of textile materials were being transported in the cargo compartment. According to expert conclusions, all the footwear has uppers made of genuine leather. Due to a failed trick, the owner of the goods intended to significantly reduce the customs duty. As a result, 480 pairs that corresponded to the declared information were sent to the recipient, and the remaining footwear with a total value of over Br16 billion was seized.

A similar situation occurred with the Mercedes vehicle – only one-third of the goods corresponded to the information declared in the waybill. 4.7 thousand pairs of shoes proceeded to their destination, while 11.6 thousand pairs, preliminarily valued at approximately Br12 billion and transported in violation of the law, had to be seized.

By the decision of the court of the Oktyabrsky district of Vitebsk, all illegally imported goods, a total of 27.7 thousand pairs of footwear with uppers made of genuine leather, were confiscated for the benefit of the state.
