Vitebsk Airport Opens Flight Season to Kaliningrad
Vitebsk Airport is opening its summer flight season to Kaliningrad, which, incidentally, will host several matches of the FIFA World Cup starting in a few days.
As reported by Sergey Glebko, Head of the Airport Service Department, flights to Kaliningrad will be operated from June 8 to August 31, twice a week on Fridays and Sundays, departing from Vitebsk at 15:20 and 11:45 respectively. A 50-seat CRJ aircraft will take passengers to their destination in just over an hour.
Ticket prices (from 63 euros), offered by Belavia airline, are kept at last year's level and will allow competition with ground transportation, increasing the accessibility and attractiveness of air travel.
This route was chosen by the carrier anticipating demand not only from residents of Vitebsk region and neighboring areas, but also from border Russian regions.
Today, Kaliningrad is the closest city to Belarus that will host the FIFA World Cup. The western border of our country and the Baltika Stadium are separated by just over 200 kilometers (Moscow is twice as far from, say, Liozno). The national teams of England and Belgium, Spain and Morocco, Serbia and Switzerland, Croatia and Nigeria will play in Kaliningrad.
