The decision was made today at the 12th extraordinary session of the 25th convocation of the Vitebsk City Council of Deputies, a BELTA correspondent reports. Before his new appointment, Viktor Nikolaikin served as the deputy chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee. Speaking before the deputies, Viktor Nikolaikin noted that the main tasks facing the city's executive vertical for 2009 and the current five-year period have already been defined by the government and the head of state. "There is a huge amount of work to be done to achieve them, and there is no time to waste," he stressed. Special attention will need to be paid to the work of the real sector of the economy. The city needs to increase GDP growth, trade turnover, and find new sales markets and business partners who are ready to invest in the development of the regional center and the implementation of joint investment projects. "At the same time, enterprises must produce in-demand products and not work for stock. Only then will Vitebsk prosper, and the well-being of its citizens will grow," the new chairman of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee is confident. -0-
