Vitebsk State University will begin training specialists for the tourism sector in 2009
April 25, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA/. Vitebsk State University named after P. Masherov will begin training specialists for the tourism services sector in the new academic year, Deputy Dean of the University's Faculty of Biology Sergey Kurdin told a BELTA correspondent.
The training of students in the new specialty "Geography" will begin at the university's Faculty of Biology. This is due to the high demand for qualified geographer specialists in scientific and pedagogical institutions, Sergey Kurdin noted. In addition, it is planned to introduce the specialization "Geography of Tourism and Excursion Management" taking into account the growing demand for tourist services, which in turn causes a demand for highly qualified personnel in the field of tourism organization and tourism business. The potential of the Vitebsk university allows training specialists capable of performing all these tasks effectively, the deputy dean is confident.
In the upcoming academic year, the university plans to enroll one group for the new specialty - about 30 people. In addition to theoretical training, students will acquire practical skills in basic geographical disciplines, tourism organization and techniques, and information technologies in tourism. To be admitted, it will be necessary to pass centralized testing in three subjects: geography, mathematics, and a language (Russian or Belarusian).
Labor market monitoring conducted by university staff has shown a significant demand for specialists in this field. Both tourism sector enterprises and environmental organizations experience a need for them. In the future, if necessary, enrollment in this specialty may be increased. -0-
