Vitebsk State University to hold Student Science Week for the first time

March 5, Vitebsk / Sergey Kotovets - BELTA /. Vitebsk State University named after P. Masherov (VSU) will organize the Student Science Week for the first time, which will be held from March 22 to 26 with the participation of representatives of all universities in the regional center, as well as students of Polotsk and Orsha colleges. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by Elena Korchevskaya, Chairman of the Council of the University Student Scientific Society, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor. The main goal of the large-scale student forum is to popularize and enhance the prestige of scientific activity among youth, and to involve students in research work. The central event will be the 10th scientific and practical conference for students and undergraduates "Education of the XXI Century", to which over 350 reports have already been submitted by students of VSU, Vitebsk Medical University, Vitebsk Technological University, and Vitebsk Academy of Veterinary Medicine, as well as students of Polotsk and Orsha colleges. The conference will feature 23 sections, and the organizers have decided not to limit the event thematically, giving young researchers the opportunity to present their work across a wide range of scientific interests. In addition, during the plenary session, 11 laureates of the republican competition of scientific works will be awarded diplomas from the special fund of the President of the Republic of Belarus for the social support of gifted students. During the Student Science Week, each department of VSU will hold its own presentation of scientific developments and student research papers, round tables, competitions, olympiads, and meetings with scientists. For example, the Department of Zoology invites participants to take a virtual journey to the Caucasus based on the results of the summer expedition of student entomologists. The conference "Social Problems of Modern Society: A Student's Perspective on Solutions" will be held at the Department of Social and Pedagogical Work. The Department of Foreign Languages will organize an evening of French poetry. The holding of the Student Science Week should assist young people in realizing their potential in the scientific field, and help them take a step towards success in research work, noted Elena Korchevskaya. In addition, the forum of young scientists will allow participants to exchange experience and achievements, discuss problematic issues, and possibly outline topics for future scientific research that will form the basis for promising innovative projects. In 2009, VSU students completed more than 150 scientific works, including over 100 authors of developments who became laureates and prize-winners of the republican competition of scientific works by students of Belarusian universities. In addition, students of the Faculty of Mathematics won third place in the international informatics olympiad, and students of the Faculty of Pedagogy became the best at the republican olympiad in correctional pedagogy and social psychology. Since 2005, university students have been actively participating in the open competition of scientific works by students of universities in Russia and CIS countries. During this time, the works of more than 20 Vitebsk residents have been recognized with medals and diplomas from the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia. -0-
