Vitebsk Medical University has a new rector – Anatoly Shchasny

On March 16, the President of the Republic of Belarus considered a number of personnel issues, including giving his consent to the appointment of Mikhail Portnoy, Chairman of the Vitebsk Council of Deputies, as Deputy Minister of Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Belarus. In addition, Anatoly Shchasny, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Surgery of the Faculty of Professional Development and Retraining of the VGMU, Professor, has been appointed Rector of the Vitebsk State Order of Peoples' Friendship Medical University.

Anatoly Tadeuszevich was born in 1961 in Kletsk, Minsk region, and graduated from the Vitebsk State Medical Institute in 1984. Before his appointment as Rector, he headed the first regional scientific and practical center "Surgery of Liver and Pancreatic Diseases", which was established to develop effective methods for the prevention and treatment of these diseases and conduct scientific research on this problem. For some time, he served as Chief Surgeon of the Healthcare Department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee. In 2014, he became a laureate of the title "Person of the Year of Vitebsk Region".

The new rector was introduced to the university's faculty and staff by the Deputy Minister of Health, Igor Lositsky, who outlined the main areas of work for Anatoly Shchastny: continuing the training of highly qualified specialists for the industry, implementing new ways and methods of practice-oriented learning, creating conditions for dissertation defense, effective research work, and strengthening the institution's material and technical base. He also noted that Anatoly Tadeuszewicz, as the head of one of the country's leading medical universities, has a special advantage: since he himself worked here, he knows the university, its vectors of activity, its staff, and its capabilities perfectly. In addition, Valery Deykalo, who headed VGMU for ten years, will continue to work here and will provide support to the new rector.

Anatoly Shchastny expressed his gratitude for the high assessment of his activities and the trust placed in him upon his appointment.

The Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee, Vladimir Terentyev, on behalf of the executive authorities, thanked Valery Deykalo for his fruitful work and wished Anatoly Shchastny not only to maintain the current level but also to improve and develop the university:
