The Vitebsk Museum of Shmyrev will unveil an interactive exhibition of partisan life during "Museum Night"
May 14, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA /. The Vitebsk Regional Museum of Hero of the Soviet Union Minay Shmyrev will for the first time unveil the interactive exhibition "Partisan Camp" and invite military history enthusiasts to spend "Night of Museums" with the partisans by the campfire from May 14 to 15. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by the director of the cultural institution, Irina Shishkova.
The Vitebsk Memorial Museum will take part in the international museum event for the first time this year. The main idea of the prepared program is to give visitors the opportunity to spend part of the day in conditions of military life, for which the historical reconstruction "Partisan Camp" will be set up. The partisan way of life and the daily routine of the Red Army soldiers will be recreated by members of the Vitebsk branch of the military-historical reconstruction club "Comrades in Arms" and the student club "Kraeved" of Vitebsk State University named after P. Masherov. The events will unfold in the museum's park area on the alley of partisan glory, which is designed as an open-air exhibition recreation, recreating a partisan encampment during the Great Patriotic War.
Four dugouts have been erected in the center of the alley, each with its own functional purpose - headquarters, armory, living quarters, and medical. The design of the structures uses items of partisan life from the institution's collections. The dugouts are designed according to original drawings from 1942-1943 from the publication of that time "Partisan's Companion," which is kept in the museum. The exhibition is complemented by the most characteristic elements of a partisan camp organization, including a tent, fire pits, a cart as the most common means of transport for delivering the wounded to aircraft for evacuation to the mainland, as well as a trench as one of the types of defensive fortifications. A one-day exhibition "Military Uniforms of the World War II Period" and an exposition of weapon samples from the museum's collections will also be presented here.
An important emotional component of the reconstruction will be the performance of the brass band of Vitebsk Children's Art School No. 2, as well as the screening of documentary footage from that period. All this will take place outdoors, so museum staff have closely studied the meteorologists' forecast for the upcoming night and hope that it will come true.
The Memorial Museum of partisan commander of the brigade, Hero of the Soviet Union Minay Filippovich Shmyrev (partisan pseudonym Batka Minay), was opened on July 5, 1969, during the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders. It includes 4 exhibition halls dedicated to various stages of the life of the legendary partisan brigade commander, as well as a park of about 0.5 hectares.
A sculptural bust of Minay Shmyrev by People's Artist of the USSR Zair Azgur is installed on the territory of the park area, and an oak alley planted by former participants of the partisan movement is located there. In 2010, the alley of partisan glory was created here. As a result, the museum's exhibition and park form a single memorial complex dedicated to the partisan movement. The museum's collections hold about 9,000 items. The museum building was constructed at the turn of the 19th-20th centuries. -0-
