The Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee is concerned about the low pace of housing construction in the region

Витебский облисполком обеспокоен низкими темпами жилищного строительства в регионе

Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Alexander Kosinets criticized the region's construction industry for the slow pace of housing construction. He announced the need to reorganize the industry today at a regular session of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, BELTA correspondent reports.

"The construction industry is not shining in all areas. It is necessary to radically change approaches and requirements for this industry," the governor believes. Housing construction is proceeding at a slow pace in the region. For January-March, according to forecasts, 50 thousand square meters of housing will be built instead of the planned 150 thousand square meters. There is still no proper return from the modernized house-building plants. According to Alexander Kosinets, the plants in Vitebsk and Novopolotsk can build at least 300 thousand square meters, but they intend to build half as much. "Unpopular measures, including organizational and personnel measures, must be taken in the industry in the region," he believes.

Vitebsk region should build not 600 thousand square meters of housing (the target set for the region by the government for 2013. - BELTA note), but significantly more, primarily through individual construction, the chairman of the regional executive committee is convinced. This year, about Br200 billion is planned to be allocated for the development of engineering infrastructure in microdistricts of individual housing construction.
