Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee allocated Br1 billion for the reconstruction of the memorial complex in the village of Shuneyevka

July 22, Dokshytsy District / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. The list of tourist sites in the Vitebsk region will be replenished in September with a new one - a memorial complex in the village of Shuneyevka. This was announced today by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Kosinets, during his visit to the Dokshytsy District, BELTA correspondent reports. In May 1943, this village suffered the same fate as Khatyn. Its civilians were burned by the German invaders. They threw the village children alive into a well and threw grenades at them. The memory of the fallen was first immortalized in 1963, when a memorial plaque was installed at the mournful site. Later, in the 1980s, sculptor Anatoly Anikeychik and architect Leonid Levin created a memorial complex here, but over time it fell into disrepair. From the regional budget, Br1 billion has been allocated this year for the reconstruction of the monument, and the restored monument will be opened in September. It will become an integral part of tourist routes around Vitebsk region and a site for visits by foreign delegations. "This is our grief, our pain, we must remember all those who died," emphasized Alexander Kosinets.
