The Yanka Kupala Vitebsk Drama Theatre will participate in the Slovenian Drama Week for the first time
The Yakub Kolas National Academic Drama Theatre will participate for the first time in the national drama festival "Slovenian Drama Week" in Kranj. This was announced to a BELTA correspondent by the theatre's director and artistic director, Honored Artist of the Republic of Belarus, laureate of the State Prize of Belarus, Professor Valery Anisenko.
At the 43rd national drama festival "Slovenian Drama Week," which will be held in Slovenia from April 1 to 8, the competition program will feature the best productions of Slovenian drama by European theaters. The forum is dedicated to the anniversary of the contemporary Slovenian playwright Elvad Flisar.
The Vitebsk theater will present a play based on his work "Leonardo," which deals with technologies of psychological manipulation of people. The production was directed by emerging capital city director Alexander Marchenko. The festival performance features young actors of the Yakub Kolas Theatre, Maxim Korzhitsky and Natalia Solomakha-Kononova, alongside stage masters such as Galina Bukatina, Gennady Gayduk, and Honored Artist of Belarus Tamara Skvortsova.
According to Valery Anisenko, participation in international festivals helps the Vitebsk theater to feel the spirit of the times, to stay abreast of new theatrical trends and processes existing in the global theater space. "The stage should be used to conduct a dialogue about current contemporary issues, not just to recount events of bygone years," the theater maestro is convinced.
