The Belarusian Railway has summed up the results of the annual republican review of the sanitary condition and improvement of railway stations, with Vitebsk station being recognized as the winner. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by the press service of Belarusian Railway. The second place was taken by the Minsk-Passazhirsky station.

According to specialists, Vitebsk station is one of the oldest on the Belarusian Railway – this year it turns 147 years old. During this time, it has been renovated many times. The facility acquired a new look as a result of the reconstruction that began in 2007.

The press service noted that the competition results were based on an assessment of the work done to improve the landscaping and sanitary condition of railway stations and their adjacent territories, carried out in 2012-2013. The architectural expressiveness of the stations, the design of the facades and adjacent territories, the improvement of passenger service quality, and the increase in the level and range of services provided were taken into account.

The annual republican review of the sanitary condition and improvement of railway stations was first held in 2001. "Holding such events demonstrates the importance that the railway attaches to the renovation of passenger stations and the introduction of new forms of passenger service," the Belarusian Railway is confident.
